MISC INFO

INTELSAT

Nine Intelsat satellites will provide more than 900MHz of capacity specifically for Occasional Use Services
to transmit the World Cup matches. The satellites include: Intelsat 907, located at 332.5°E;
Intelsat 11, located at 317°E; Intelsat 12, located at 45ºE; Intelsat 10 located at 68.5°E;
Intelsat 702 located at 66°E; Intelsat 904 ocated at 60°E; and the Intelsat 10-02 located
at 1°W. In addition, Intelsat relocated its Intelsat 709 and Intelsat 705 satellites to 55°E
and 330.5ºE, respectively, specifically to meet the capacity demand for broadcast services of the event.

ASIASAT

Asian broadcasters with broadcast rights to this mega sporting event will receive live coverage of the matches from AsiaSat 5 and then redistribute the television signals through their television networks to billions of football fans across the Asia-Pacific region. To support the HD and SD broadcasts of all 64 World Cup tournament matches, Eurovision, the premier distributor of sports and news content for the world’s top broadcast and media platforms, has leased additional C-band transponders on AsiaSat 5 during the tournament period. Eurovision will transport the signals from the International Broadcast Centre (IBC) in Johannesburg via its dedicated fibre network to AsiaSat's Tai Po Earth Station in Hong Kong for uplinking to AsiaSat 5. These matches will then be received by broadcasters across the Asia-Pacific region.

MEASAT

MEASAT Satellite Systems Sdn. Bhd. (“MEASAT”) announced today that it had signed an agreement with GlobeCast Asia to provide transponder capacity for the upcoming FIFA World Cup 2010 in South Africa.
“This will be the first time MEASAT has been involved in distributing the FIFA World Cup,” said Terry Bleakley, Vice President, Commercial Operations, MEASAT. “The MEASAT-3 satellite located at the 91.5°E orbital slot has an excellent footprint and is the ideal platform to distribute content directly from South Africa to the entire Asia Pacific region.”

SES WORLD SKIES

Eurovision has enlisted SES WORLD SKIES’ NSS-5, NSS-806 and AMC-9 satellites to enable broadcasters across the globe to provide extensive coverage of the 2010 FIFA World Cup™. The NSS-5 spacecraft is expected to deliver the lion’s share of World Cup football to audiences throughout North America, Latin America, Europe, Africa and the Middle East. The hybrid C/Ku-band satellite was moved in February to its 340 degrees East orbital slot in preparation for the big event in South Africa, following the successful launches of NSS-9 and NSS-12 earlier last year.

NSS-806 will play an instrumental role in support of broadcasters’ occasional use and reporting requirements from a variety of cities and towns hosting World Cup football matches. The AMC-9 satellite will deliver football action and analysis for the first time to viewers throughout Mexico. SES’ teleport in Betzdorf, Luxembourg, will serve as Eurovision’s primary downlink and backup uplink for the world feed ultimately distributed over NSS-5 and Eurovision’s global fibre network. Eurovision will utilize the operator’s teleport facility in Manassas, Virginia, for onward distribution of the World Cup coverage via NSS-806 for Latin America and AMC-9 for Mexico.

“We work closely with SES WORLD SKIES to bring top quality sports events to the world broadcasting community. SES has demonstrated it is a highly reliable partner in our mission to put the most prestigious sports programming exactly where broadcasters need it in a seamless, reliable and cost-effective way,” states Stefan Kuerten, Director of Eurovision Operations. “SES WORLD SKIES consistently anticipates our broadcast and distribution needs and meets our challenges with strategic solutions that work effectively and globally”, Kuerten added, referring to SES WORLD SKIES’ repositioning of NSS-5 ahead of the 2010 World Cup.

GLOBECAST

GlobeCast also will provide HD and SD SNG trucks and fly-aways, international and domestic fibre links, studios, camera crews and playout for both domestic and international delivery via satellite and fibre for broadcasters outside of the IBC, including SVT, Sky Italia, Mediaset, RAI, Softbank, Korea Telecom, TV Asahi, Fox Australia and RCTI.
    GlobeCast’s World Cup satellite network includes more than 300Mhz of sold satellite capacity on Intelsat’s IS-709, Eutelsat’s W7, W3A and more than 1300MB of redundant, networked SDH fiber connectivity over the six week period.
